Coeur d'Alene student suspended after threatening to 'shoot up the school'
A student was suspended from Lakes Middle School after making statements to others he was going to “shoot up the school," according to a press release Tuesday.
The Coeur d'Alene Police Department was made aware of threats by the 14-year-old student about 3 p.m. Tuesday and officers immediately began investigating the incident, the release said.
Officers contacted the student and his parents at their home.
"The student was suspended from school and precautions have been taken to prevent the student from returning until the investigation is concluded," the release said.
Officers don’t believe the student has access to firearms based on information from the student’s parents. Additionally, officers don’t believe there is an active threat to any of the students or staff at Lakes Middle School, the release said.
"We would like to remind all students that threats similar to this will be thoroughly investigated and all appropriate criminal charges will be filed," the release said. "Anyone who hears of threats to students or staff at any school of our local schools is encouraged to contact the Coeur d’Alene Police Department."
