9/11 Commemoration 23rd anniversary celebrated Wednesday
BONNERS FERRY — In honor of those whose lives were lost or permanently impacted on Sept. 11, 2001, the Boundary County Chaplain Corps is sponsoring a local commemoration at the Boundary County Fairgrounds pavilion on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 5: 30 p.m.
“Representatives of emergency services agencies will be in attendance, and the public is urged to attend as we remember and reflect upon one of the most momentous days in our national history,” BCCC chaplain Len Pine said.
"It's been 23 years since the horrific attacks in New York City, Pennsylvania, and the Pentagon,” he said. “Many of us will never forget that day, or what it meant to our nation. But many do forget, and many now live who were not yet born then, and so have no personal recollection or context in which to put what they may have heard. It is important to remind ourselves of the import of that day, a day that changed all of our lives ever after, and to honor those that died, many sacrificially, in their efforts to preserve the lives of others.”
“Those efforts brought the best of the American spirit of duty, sacrifice, and unity to the attention of the world, and it is a spirit that needs to be renewed and strengthened for our own sakes,” he said. “This is why for the past five plus years the Chaplain Corps has held an annual memorial event here in Boundary County, and why we will continue to do so."
The commemoration will feature a tolling of the bells to honor those who died at the twin towers in New York, at the Pentagon, at Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and the first responders that perished in New York that horrific day. The Boundary County Fire Rescue Honor Guard will present the colors.
Please come and join with your neighbors as Boundary County honors the courage in the face of tragedy that was so abundantly seen in the events of 9/11. The venue is covered, and the event will take place rain or shine.
Seating will be available. For more information, contact Pine at 208-946-9761.
