FOOTBALL: Lions victory, Hiatt scores season’s first TD for Badgers

BONNERS FERRY — The Eureka Lions claimed their first win in a 39-6 victory over Bonners Ferry (0-2) on Friday, Aug. 30 at Mendenhall Stadium.

Lincoln County struck first and hard with a touchdown on the first Lion advance. From there, it was off to the races, as they led 26-0 at halftime.  

Lion quarterback Rogan Lytle went 14-for-18,  passing 185 yards and one touchdown pass. Lytle rushed for 10 carries, adding 146 yards, going long for 50 yards. Haiden Johnson added 11 carries and 92 yards to contribute to the Lions 310 rushing yards. 

For the Badgers, QB Brody Rice completed seven of 13 for 49 yards.  

Running back Conrad Hiatt made up most of the Badgers’ 89 rushing yards, nabbing 24 carries and 75 yards, with a long of 13 yards.  

In the third quarter, on a fourth-and-one-play, two yards from the goal line, Hiatt went up the middle before veering to the right and into the endzone, scoring the first Badger touchdown of the season.  

The field goal by Rice was blocked by the Lion defense.  

Sulaymanu “Sulay” Abubakari lead the Badgers with three receptions and 28 yards, out of a total 49 yards. 

Lytle utilized the pride of Lions down field with 6 Lions earning 16 receptions and 185 yards. Lytle had eight solo tackles and an assist on a ninth while Johnson had nine solo tackles and two assists. Lineman Josh Lambersten earned a sack.  

On Badger defense, junior Keenan Maas earned a sack with a loss of seven yards. He also nabbed six tackles.  

The Badgers host 3A St. Maries on Friday at 7 p.m.  

Homecoming is set for Friday, Sept. 13 against Northwest Christian.
