Rhythm Boomers Drum Circle at the Pearl Theater

| September 5, 2024 1:00 AM

The weekly Rhythm Boomers drum circle Saturdays at the Pearl Theater is a chance to get your drum on.

Rhythm Boomers was formed in December 2023 by Aron Fox. The local percussionist has had starting a drum circle on his bucket list for long time. That desire led him to create Rhythm Boomers.

The drum circle meets Saturdays at 10 a.m. at the Pearl Theater. Participants can bring their own drum. However, if you don’t have your own, a collection of percussion instruments are available.

The drum circle has drummers of all ages, with the youngest being 16 and the oldest 77.

“Drumming has been shown to improve cognitive functions like memory and attention. A study by The Journal of Neuroscience concluded that the rhythmic training through activities like drumming enhances timing precision and discipline,” Fox said about the benefits of drumming. “It brings us into our bodies with joy. It can boost immunity, self-confidence, stress reduction, pain reduction.”

Fox added that drumming promotes social connections among players, regardless of age or gender.

“The drum circle enhances what some might refer to as a prayerful state of being, a spiritual trance,” he said. “Cultures worldwide for thousands of years have used the drum to enhance trance-like states. Sometimes players have experienced a kind of emotional release. Some people even get up and dance to the rhythms.”
