September events at the Pearl Theater
The Pearl Theater is known for hosting performances and concerts, but the theater is also a venue for groups, workshops, classes and events. A number of events are on the theater’s calendar for the remainder of September.
Built in 1894, the building was the first Catholic Church in Bonners Ferry. The historic building is now a theater that provides performance arts, and other events, to the growing community of Boundary County.
“The historic Pearl Theater offers an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone,” McCallum Morgan, program director, said. “This season, we're presenting everything from family friendly movie nights, like Talk Like a Pirate Day (Sept. 20), to adult soirees like Night Owl (Sept. 28), as well as a weekly Saturday morning drum circle, weekly Monday evening writers group, and more.”
Sept. 19 – Book Talk, 6-8 p.m.
Book club without assigned reading: Talk about the book you are reading! Free light refreshments are available, including wine.
Sept. 20 – Talk Like a Pirate Day, 7-10 p.m.
Visit the historic Pearl Theater for snacks and a movie: “Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl” (PG-13). And after the movie, there'll be a prize fer the best dressed pirate and even a wee jig, aye? This event is free.
Sept. 21 and 28 – Rhythm Boomers Drum Circle – 10 a.m.
Listen and enjoy or join in the drum circle. Participants can bring their own drum. However, if you don’t have one, a collection of percussion instruments are available. This is a free event.
Sept. 23 – Writers Group – 6 p.m.
Writers Group returns with rotating hosts, Melinda Brinkman, Grace Robinson, and McCallum Morgan. Guided discussion on a weekly topic will be followed by optional writing prompts and sharing. The first meeting on Sept. 16 focused on brainstorming. The following week will focus on outlining and the last Monday in September will look at more plotting elements. Currently this program is focused mostly on story writing, but it's also a good place to meet local writers and talk shop.
Sept 26 – Performer's Circle – 7-9 p.m.
Join the Performer’s Circle or simply come and watch. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., music starts at 7 p.m. Drink specials served at the Pearl Lounge.
Sept. 28 - Night Owl: After Dark Social – 9 p.m. - midnight
A late-night social event for ages 18 and up. Enjoy cocktails and wine at the Pearl Lounge and enjoy unique entertainment. There is a $5 cover charge.
Sept. 29 – Tea & Tarot – noon - 2 p.m.
Learn about tarot and other intuition and divination cards or practices. The program is good for beginners or the curious. Bring your own cards and share how you use them, or simply join in for practice readings, discuss all things tarot and explore the mystery of the cards. This is a free event, light refreshments, including tea, wine and soft drinks, are served.
The Pearl Theater, Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization founded in 2012 with the goal of providing quality performing arts in an intimate historic downtown art house. The Pearl Theater’s objective as a nonprofit is to foster and develop the artistic talents and skills of community members of all ages, to serve as an outreach to encourage and facilitate social activities, and to nurture excellence in the performing arts through the presentation of performing artists from the local area as well as national and international arenas.
