BFPD seeks eighth officer
BONNERS FERRY — The Bonners Ferry Police Department is seeking an eighth officer.
“We are currently seeking highly qualified, self-motivated, applicants/laterals for a current job opening with the Bonners Ferry Police Department,” BFPD Assistant Chief Jeremy Garrett said.
BFPD had an eighth officer in 2009, but after a shift in staffing at that time when one officer transferred to another agency for budget reasons that eight position was dissolved, BFPD Chief Willie Cowell said.
Cowell said that when he was hired full-time to BFPD in 2011, the department was still at a staff of seven.
“We were down to five officers in 2018 when Brian Zimmerman was hired as chief. Through his efforts in strengthening the department, by the time he retired in 2024, we were again at seven officers,” Cowell said.
BFPD offers a competitive salary and health insurance. The full job posting can be found on the city’s website, bonnersferry.id.gov.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or the equivalent, an Idaho driver’s license (or ability to obtain one upon conditional offer), be 21 years or older, be able to pass POST physical abilities test requirements and pass an extensive background check.
