Community car seat safety check set for Sept 28
BONNES FERRY — The safety of children is a top priority, and that includes vehicle safety.
The community is invited to come to a Safe Start mobile safety lab on Saturday, Sept. 28, to learn about child passenger safety and get their car seat checked. The event is being held at the Boundary County Annex, 6566 S. Main, Bonner Ferry, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This is a free education safety event. There will also be education on infant sleep safety, an opportunity to get safety questions answered by subject matter experts, and new, safe car seats and cribs will be available for those in need.
Safe Start began its Rural Education Outreach program after realizing children born into rural communities are five times as likely to be killed in a car crash, more than six times as likely to be using incorrect child restraints (or no child restrains at all ) and child passenger safety misuse rates in rural communities are as high as 91% in some areas.
Safe Start is working to remove as many barriers as possible to obtaining the lifesaving services they provide, by traveling to rural communities and serving the region’s families in their hometowns.
