SOCCER

GIRLS

Timberlake 4, Bonners Ferry 2

BONNERS FERRY — The Badgers (6-5, 4-2) fell to the Tigers (5-1-1) 4-2  in league play on Tuesday, but saw drastic improvement from past 10-0 lost to the Tigers.

Timberlake led 4-1 in the first half, with Bonners Ferry German exchange student Ocka Stroemer scoring for the Badgers.

In the final minutes, Maddie Hart scored for Bonners Ferry.

Bonners Ferry head coach Emily Winebark said the improvement of 4-2 from 10-0 loss is encouraging looking to districts.

“We’re starting to get our quick triangle passing to work,” Winebark said. “We are playing sequences instead of playing for the ball,” which shows the team is learning more about the game of soccer.

“We’ve got our defensive line set and are strong with Addison Lucan and Ocka Stroemer reading what needs to happen,” she said.

The new formation of a 4-3-3 has helped change this up as well, she said. The Badgers have played a lot of physical teams the past week and know how to play through the contact and not lose their cool.

The Badgers faced CDA  Charter (4-2-2, 4-0-1) on Wednesday.

Riverside 3, Bonners Ferry 1

NINE MILE — Ocka Stroemer scored for the Badgers against the Riverside Rams on Monday.

Blackmore sinks five goals against Tigers

BF 8, Timberlake 0

BONNERS FERRY — Eli Blackmore scored five goals for the Badgers (9-1-1, 8-0 IML) in a win over the Tigers at Bonners Ferry High.

The Badgers led early on with a goal from senior forward Nik Rawson, but at the 28 minute mark it was game on, as senior midfielder Eli Blackmore went to work.

Blackmore earned a hat trick right before halftime, as the Badgers led 4-0.

In the second half, he scored off a header and then again earned his fifth goal when he out ran the Badger defense and went one-on-one with the Tiger keeper.

Rawson earned his second goal of the night at the 41st minute and Dominic Solum scored sliding into goal.

“I feel that we came out solid then there was a little slump,” Bonners Ferry head coach Paul Bonnell said.

He said when Rawson and Blackmore were taken it out and coaching staff showed let them see what was happening on the field.

“At half-time we said we can either drag this game out at 4-0, or finish it,” Bonnell said.

Blackmore’s header was a turning point in the game as it pushed the Badgers to finish the game, Bonnell said.

The Badger faced Coeur d’Alene Charter (8-0-1, 6-0) on Wednesday.

Next week the Badgers will play three games in a row to round out league.

Stillwater 3, BF 0

KALLSPELL — Badger soccer fell to Stillwater Christian 3-0 on Sept. 20.

Bonnell said the Stillwater loss reset the Badgers mindset and was a good wake up to see where the team is complacent.

In the season opened season against Cougars the Badgers won 7-2.

He added that the Cougars had more athletes than at the first match up.
