PREP TRACK & FIELD: Baisden leads Bonners Ferry girls to Ezra Gordon team title
COLVILLE — Bonners Ferry High junior Makenna Baisden won the 400-meter dash and was apart of two winning relays as the Lady Badgers beat out 21 other teams to capture the team title at the Ezra Gordon Invitational held Friday at Colville High.
Baisden beat out 25 other runners with her gold medal time of 1:01.15, a new season best. She also anchored the Lady Badgers' winning 4x100 relay (51.89) and 4x400 relay (4:23.97).
Also picking up wins on the day were sophomore Eva Willis, who cleared 5 feet even and beat out 23 other competitors in the high jump, and junior Hana Hartman, who threw to a new personal best mark of 40 feet even and beat out 54 other competitors in the shotput.
Senior Brooke Petesch was second out of 28 in the 800-meter run (2:33.33), sophomore Ireland Grady was second out of 21 in the 100-meter hurdles (17.29), and senior Helene Rae was second in the shotput (39 feet 9.5 inches) and second out of 60 in the discus with a new personal best mark (116 feet 1.5 inches).
Sophomore Taren Bateman was also apart of both winning relays and placed third out of 50 in the long jump with a new personal best leap of 16 feet 6.5 inches for Bonners Ferry, which scored 109 points, 44 more than runner-up Medical Lake.
For the boys, junior Logan Archibald led the Badgers to a tied for third-place team finish out of 23 scoring teams by placing in the top five in three different events. He was second out of 25 in the high jump (5 foot 10 inches), third out of 13 in the triple jump (38 feet 1.75 inches) and fourth out of 28 in the pole vault with a new personal best clear (11 feet even).
Bonners Ferry scored the majority of their points in the field events. Sophomore Jake Solt was second out of 58 in the javelin with a new personal best throw of 143 feet 7 inches, junior James Morgen was third out of 64 in the discus (131 feet 4 inches) and fourth out of 60 in the shotput (40 feet 1.5 inches), and sophomore Riley Beggerly was fifth out of 25 in the long jump with a new personal best mark of 19 feet 1.25 inches.
Junior Devin Sceppe added a fourth-place finish out of 15 in the 300-meter hurdles (44.97) for the Baders, which returned to action yesterday for an Intermountain League dual against Timberlake and will travel to both the Lake Pend Oreille Invite in Sandpoint and the Pasco Invite this Saturday. Additionally, the team will compete this upcoming Tuesday at the Christina Finney Co-ed Relays hosted by Post Falls High.
