Kiyoko Nishigima Counts, 91

| February 13, 2025 1:00 AM

Kiyoko passed away from this life on February 3, 2025. A woman of immense kindness, she carried herself with quiet dignity. She was a hard worker and kept her surroundings in perfect order. She loved flowers, children, and animals. She had a quirky sense of humor and a love for fun.

Kiyoko was born on April 25, 1933, in Tokyo, Japan. Growing up, she lived near the seaside, where she would spend hours on the shore playing with her three brothers, Toshio, Tsuneo, and Hiroo, and her little sister, Haruko.

When she was older, she worked as a bookkeeper at one of the military bases in Japan. It was there that she met her future husband, George Counts. George and Kiyoko were married.

In 1973, George retired from the military, and they moved to their home of 39 years in Moyie Springs, Idaho.

George passed away in 2011, and Kiyoko then moved from the remoteness of their Moyie Springs home to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to be near family and friends. She lived in Coeur d'Alene for ten years before moving back to Bonners Ferry, where she took residence at Sunset Home in May 2023.

Kiyoko loved living at Sunset Home. The staff and residents became her new friends and family. She suffered a stroke while living at Sunset Home, and hospice stepped in to help ease her from her long life of 91 years.

We, who knew and loved Kiyoko, wish to extend our deepest gratitude to all the staff at Sunset Home and to Eden Hospice, who cared for Kiyoko with gentleness and respect as she found her way to the other shore. Safe journey, Kiyoko.
