Beta Sigma Phi welcomes new members

| February 27, 2025 1:00 AM

A preferential tea was held Monday, Feb. 24, to induct six members into Bonners Ferry Beta Sigma Phi chapters. Joining the chapters were Teresa Rae, Jan Bayer, Cheryl Russell, Karee Wilson, Dani Steinhorst and Maureen Mai.

Members from the three local chapters enjoyed an evening of welcoming the new members, celebrating the advancement in degrees of membership with several members, and sharing tea from a variety of teacups brought from home and a delicious cake for dessert to round out the evening.

Beta Sigma Phi International is a sorority founded in 1931 for women unable to attend college due to the economic climate of the time. It is a non-collegiate, non-sectarian and non-political organization. Beta  is open to all women of all backgrounds, ages 18 and up. It is a lifelong sisterhood and a shared commitment to the pursuit of a life worth living, the growth and enrichment of continued learning and the support and love of friendship.

Bonners Ferry chapters of Beta Sigma Phi began in the early 1970s. Currently there are three local chapters that give back to the community and are "family" to their Beta "sisters."

Locally Beta sponsors an annual scholarship to a graduating high school senior as well as giving donations to worthy projects/programs such as the Women's Cancer group, Friends of the Restorium, local food banks, BoCo Backpacks, Senior Hospitality Center, Hope House, school bleacher project, Fuller Housing project, annual sponsorship of DYW and many, many more. Funds are raised from selling the Beta Sigma Phi Community Birthday Calendars and various other fundraisers.
