PREP WRESTLING: Nine Badgers headed to state tourney

GIRLS

MOSCOW — Sofia Brown (138) continues to cement her legacy in North Idaho girls wrestling history.

The Bonners Ferry High senior, who holds a 31-4 record on the year, won her first two matches by pin and by a 16-1 technical fall to take home the All-Class District 1-2 title this past Wednesday, Feb. 19 at Moscow High.

Junior Nevaeh Therrien (107), who holds a record of 29-3, also punched her ticket to state by winning her respective weight class for the third straight year, pinning all three of her opponents.

Sophomore Kylie Calderone (100) rounded out the state qualifiers, finishing second in her weight class by default.

Aubree Graves (120) also battled hard throughout the tourney and finished fourth, posting a record of 4-2 with three first round pins. Melody Graves (114) went 2-2 on the day for Bonners Ferry, which placed fifth out of 18 scoring teams with just five wrestlers.

The All-Class State Championship will be held Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, Mar. 1 at the ICCU Dome in Pocatello.

BOYS

SPIRIT LAKE — Sophomores Jacob Solt (190) and Taylor Dodd (285) both won their respective weight classes to lead the Badgers at the 4A District 1-2 Championships held this past Friday, Feb. 21 at Timberlake High.

Solt defeated teammate Kai Aitken by a 6-0 decision to clinch gold while Dodd defeated his Timberlake opponent with a first round pin.

Also heading to state for the Badgers are junior Stryder Liermann (138), who won his weight class by default, and junior Hunter Pope (144), sophomore Ethan Matthews (132) and junior Gaige Johnson (165), who all finished second and received wildcard bids.

The 4A State Championship will be held Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, Mar. 1 at the ICCU Dome in Pocatello.
