Bonners Ferry Special Olympics Alpine Team set to compete in Northern Regionals

| March 6, 2025 1:00 AM

Bonners Ferry’s Special Olympics Alpine team will make history later this month when the athletes compete at the Northern Regionals at Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort. It will be the team’s first appearance at the March 21 event, weather permitting.

The Bonners Ferry team has participated in winter events before, but this is the first time they have hosted an alpine team of skiers and snowboarders.

The team this year received rental equipment, private lessons, and season passes through Schweitzer’s North Idaho Mountain Sports Education Fund.

The Special Olympics team in Bonners Ferry is a thriving group of athletes ranging in age from 8 to 84, each with their own unique interests and abilities. Participants take part in a wide array of year-round sports, showcasing their talents and determination in events such as bocce ball, bowling, snowshoeing, alpine sports, cycling, track and field, and more. The program provides an inclusive and supportive environment for athletes of all skill levels, promoting both physical fitness and personal achievement.
