Make-A-Wish helping Idaho youth
In the last three years, Make-A-Wish Idaho has seen close to a 30% increase in wishes, granting between 127 and 140 annually compared to around 100 per year since 2010.
The nonprofit believes many eligible children don't apply because they think wishes are only for terminal patients. This is not true. Wishes help children and families cope with the emotional challenges of severe illnesses.
Cancer diagnoses, which have high survival rates, are the most common referrals. While treatments can be lengthy and taxing, Make-A-Wish provides hope during difficult times.
"Our mission is to grant the wish of every eligible child in Idaho," said Janie Best, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Idaho. "We support families going through the very worst and the very challenging, offering something positive during treatment."
Wishes are granted through referrals by medical professionals, social workers or family members. To refer a child, visit wish.org/refer-a-child.
