Full caption: Bonners Ferry High freshman Kaitlyn Becker, left, and junior Daniel Woelfle, right, are some of the first Badgers to compete in high school tennis in a number of decades. The duo will compete with Sandpoint's junior varsity team throughout the regular season, and in the postseason, will represent Bonners Ferry at the 4A District 1-2 Championships and potentially the 4A State Championship. Sandpoint High head coach Kent Anderson said they're the first two from Boundary County that he has coached in his 17 years as head coach. Woelfle, who now spends a lot of time at the new James E. Russell Sports Center in Sandpoint, started playing the sport last winter, practicing indoors at Valley View Elementary school. He then really ramped up his training in the summer, hitting hundreds of serves per day. After falling in love with the sport, he now has aspirations of even playing beyond high school someday. As for Becker, both of her parents played in all their years of high school and introduced her to the sport. She's been playing tennis for a couple of years now and is looking forward to the remainder of the season.
