A yellow line of Burlington Northern Santa Fe boom can be seen to the left of the Twin Rivers Sturgeon and Burbot Hatchery’s water intake situated in the Kootenai River. First responders were trained to deploy the BNSF boom equipment to protect this intake from any potential floating contaminants. The intake draws water from the river and feeds it into a holding tank inside of the hatchery in order to provide the burbot and sturgeon with fresh river water that is critical to their survival.
