A fire broke out on Riverside Road, just west of the city limits, on Sunday, June 25, around 8 p.m. A large tree caught fire, along with the surrounding brush. North Bench Fire Department responded, with assistance from South Boundary Fire Department, who brought a water tender. The fire was contained quickly by the crew. The area is a notorious hotspot as tourism increases, and people throw lit cigarette butts out of their car windows. “Out here, it seems the last couple of years, we’ve had it in July or August,” said North Bench Fire Chief Gus Jackson, who was the incident commander at the scene.
