Last year Idaho Gov. Brad Little proclaimed Dec. 9-13, 2019, Computer Science Education Week in Idaho before coding alongside students — including fifth grader Orrin Hawkins — at Garfield Elementary School in Boise during the school's Hour of Code celebration. The governor followed suit this year, proclaiming Dec. 7-13, 2020, CS Ed Week in Idaho via a virtual ceremony. According to the Idaho STEM Action Center, schools and organizations are staging about 100 Hour of Code events throughout the state this week among more than 68,000 occurring worldwide in over 180 countries. Hour of Code is a global movement Code.org founded in 2013 that offers one-hour introductions to computer science and the basics of coding, which has become an important form of literacy just like reading.
