Boundary County 2024 in review

This year, the 2024 elections brought new beginnings on all levels, with a new sheriff-elect in town. Precious times also came to an end, as Boundary County celebrated the lives of deeply valued and influential people who passed away. At the schools, the community celebrated historic sports victories and mourned defeats on the local ballot. As the state population climbed to above two million, new businesses continued opening throughout North Idaho.

Sheriff investigates complaint against Reinbold's absences

The West Bonner County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a criminal complaint against West Bonner School District trustee Troy Reinbold for nonfeasance as a public official. The West Bonner school board has been unable to have a meeting because Reinbold has been absent, and therefore, school business has ground to a halt. The five-member board was reduced to three following the August recall of two board members. The board needs three for a quorum to meet.

As the warmer weather has returned, more people are spending time outdoors taking in all of the outdoor experiences North Idaho has to offer. Panhandle Health District wants to remind residents and visitors in the Silver Valley and the Coeur d’Alene River Basin to go about recreation activities responsibly to protect their health while also having fun. Historic mining, milling, smelting, and disposal activities employed in the Silver Valley led to widespread heavy metal contamination hazards found throughout the region.

A lot of voters in Boundary County are unaware that they actually are not registered to vote, according to Boundary County Clerk Glenda Poston. Sometimes they learn they are unable to vote only when they show up at the polls on election night and their names are not in the official poll book.
