Memorial dedication event for Grace Siler is Saturday, Nov. 3
Grace Siler was the guardian of human rights in Bonners Ferry and Boundary County from 1985 until 2013 when she was no longer able to live alone and moved to be with her son. Grace inspired and motivated those around her with her courage and tireless dedication to advance civil and human rights. She believed strongly in the rights of individuals and often spoke for those who did not have a voice.

2nd Annual Hometown Holiday event set for Nov. 27-28
Local businesses, with support from the Bonners Ferry Chamber of Commerce, are joining together to offer folks a chance to stay home during the biggest shopping weekend of the year with abundant local sales and specials for the second Annual Hometown Holiday Event on Nov. 27 and Nov. 28. From storewide sales to fresh-baked cookies, this weekend promises to give everyone a shopping experience that will be both pleasurable and easy on the wallet. Best of all, every dollar spent at home is one more dollar that stays local, helping boost our local economy. On Friday, November 27 from 4 to 5:30 p.m., everyone is welcome to the Annual Lighting of the Community Christmas Tree at the Georgia Mae Plaza, along with the arrival of Santa Claus to greet all the Boundary County children and their families. County unemployment at 4.8 percent
Idaho’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held at 3.8 percent in August. Nationally the unemployment rate also held steady at 4.9 percent. In Idaho’s panhandle, which includes Boundary County, unemployment more closely mimics the national rate at 5 percent. The county rate was a shade under at 4.8 percent for July 2016. That compares to 5.1 for the county in July 2015.
BCSD 101 prepares for virus
BONNERS FERRY— As of March 5, there have only been a few school closures due to the COVID-19 virus, better known as coronavirus. Many of those schools are in the Seattle, Wash., area. Additionally, on Wednesday, March 4, Los Angeles, Calif., officials declared a public health emergency; whereas, they spoke to the community to prepare for school closures.
