NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING The Boundary County Commissioners will hold a reconsideration hearing at 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 24th, 2017 in the Commissioners' Office at the Boundary County Courthouse to reconsider a Short Plat Subdivision Application 17-051 by Joy Liljestam and Ted Ludlum. Application 17-051 dealt with a request to amend a previous plat on parcel # RP009000000070A. This request applies to Ordinance 2017-1 and specifically to Section(s) 11.3.6. Rural Subdivision: "Subdivision by short plat to create lots primarily intended for residential development where each lot meets or exceeds the density of the zone district in which it lies and where no lot created is less than 2-1/2 acres in size."; 11.6. Administration, Platted Subdivision. The decision will be made based upon what is in the record. There will be no public input. Congressman Fulcher has cosponsored H.R. 1712 The Death Tax Repeal Act, introduced by Rep. Jason Smith (R-MO) and Rep. Sanford Bishop (D-GA). This bipartisan bill would protect family-owned ranches, farms, and businesses by repealing the death tax (also known as the “estate tax”) in its entirety.

Boundary County Library nominated Top Small Library in USA

BONNERS FERRY — Our local Boundary County Library has been nominated for an award for the top small library in the United States. Its extensive children’s section, young adult section, large print section, and an array of books for all ages — as well as the Fab Lab and other programs offered — makes the library a perfect candidate.

Do It Best Corp recognizes Pro X

The locally owned Pro X Home Center was one of seven businesses recognized in Do It Best Corp.’s annual report. The 2016 report, which was released at the end of October, drew attention to Pro X because of the overwhelming success of its newest location at 510374 Hwy. 95 in Bonners Ferry.

AARP tax aid for seniors available in Sandpoint and Cd'A

The AARP TAX-AID preparation help will not be at the Senior Hospitality Center in Bonners Ferry this year because of a shortage of volunteers. There will be a Tax-Aid help in the Sandpoint Senior center, Sandpoint, or in Coeur d’Alene at the Silver Lake Mall.

Eika Willis wins BCMS National Geographic Bee

Eika Willis, an eighth grade student at Boundary County Middle School, won the school competition of the National Geographic Bee on Jan. 29, and a chance at a $50,000 college scholarship. The school Bee, at which students answered questions on geography, was the first round in the 30th annual National Geographic Bee, a geography competition designed to inspire and reward students’ curiosity about the world.

Simpson steps up again to protect Idaho’s interests in Congress

Dorothy Moon, the chair of the Idaho Republican Party, has been attacking Congressman Mike Simpson for his refusal to support Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH) for Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. Simpson responded in typical fashion, saying, “I will not take Chairwoman Moon’s ill-advised input when I have been fighting for Idaho longer than she has lived in the state.” As usual, he speaks the truth.
