While Inland Forestry Management sold, little will change

It was 40 or so years ago that Dick Bradetich and Mike Wolcott walked into Bill Love's office at the Idaho Department of Lands in Sandpoint. The pair, Love recounts, wanted to let him know about their new forestry consultation business. Now, Inland Forest Management officials are letting the community know about a new change in the company with the sale of IFM to Georgia-based F&W Forestry Services.

Let's get Woodward back where he belongs

Politics have never been top on my list of interests, but the numerous bills coming out of Boise do not reflect my rights or values. I never want guns in schools or music festivals. I don’t want armed militias walking the streets. I don’t want my tax dollars going to ludicrous lawsuits.

Don't get fooled this election season

There's an old saying: “You can fool ALL people SOME of the time---you can fool SOME people ALL the time—but you can't fool ALL the people ALL the time!” I don't like to admit it, but I've been fooled. But it's not a disgrace to be misled—we are all deceived occasionally: the problem is if we fall for the scam a second time.

Critchfield unveils incremental funding formula change

State superintendent Debbie Critchfield and two lawmakers Friday unveiled a late-session proposal to shift a small portion of the K-12 school budget to “per-student” funding. The bill would use student counts rather than support units as a metric for calculating discretionary funds, potentially adding $50 million to the annual allocation. Other areas of the school budget would continue to use support units.

THE FRONT ROW with MARK NELKE: Journey to a title in Bonners — with a brief stop in Cd’A

“The whole process has been completely amazing,” said Nathan Williams, now in his fourth season as the Badgers boys basketball coach. “And the parents … it’s an hour and a half to Spokane, Coeur d’Alene, when we’d play an AAU game, and an hour and a half back, and there were so many times there was 6, 8 inches of snow. And we’ve got a game at 8 a.m. They’d always schedule us at 8 a.m., coming from Bonners. So we’re waking up at 5 … it was crazy. But the commitment from the parents and the kids has been amazing.”
