Little sets school buildings, water infrastructure and transportation as top priorities

Idaho Gov. Brad Little has unveiled a plan to boost Idaho's education, water and transportation infrastructure during his annual "State of the State" address. Little presented his proposal to lawmakers gathered at the Statehouse for the first day of the legislative session Monday. He says too many of Idaho's school buildings are neglected and falling apart, and said a $2 billion investment in school facilities over 10 years would serve as a form of long-term property tax relief. Idaho's school facilities are largely funded through property taxes, and districts often must ask voters to approve levies to fix leaky roofs or otherwise improve buildings. Little also proposed funding to improve transportation and boost water capacity during drought.

Inflation, credit ratings warrant action, not celebration

Since President Biden’s Inauguration, inflation has cost Idaho families, raising monthly expenses in November an additional $984. In other words, it costs Idahoans $11,807 more this past year to afford the same standard of living as roughly three years ago, according to data from U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee Republican Staff. The White House’s celebration of prices rising slower than record paces is hollow when inflation-fueled prices have increased so drastically and continue to erode paychecks.

Idaho's county clerks deserve our respect

We sometimes hear Idaho’s County Clerks spoken of dismissively as mere clerks – low-level functionaries just there to carry out the orders of county commissioners. Those dismissive individuals might be surprised to learn that elected clerks are the heart and soul of most counties in the Gem State. Idaho law says they serve as clerk of the courts in their county, as well as ex officio auditor, recorder and county commission clerk.
