While Mark is a conservative, he exercises decision-making that does not necessarily conform to labels. It was clear from my interaction with Mark and others who worked with him to get H596a passed that he wanted to pass prudent legislation that helped the citizens of Idaho.

Area residents might want to watch their mail boxes for Internal Revenue Service collection or lien settlement scams. Recently, collection notices appearing to be from the IRS or the state of Idaho have been found in mail boxes in Boundary County.

Kootenai Basin Adjudication is expected to take five years, cost $3.25 million

Two bills approved by the Idaho Legislature are expected to enhance water management in the state, Idaho Water Resource Board officials said following its March 29 meeting. The first bill, House Bill 687, would allow the Idaho Department of Water Resources to petition a District Court judge to commence a water rights adjudication in North Idaho's Kootenai River Basin.

Reverting to average daily attendance-based funding from the enrollment-based funding formula used during COVID-19 years has left many Idaho school districts feeling a financial pinch. “Money was left on the table, and we knew that last year,” Idaho State Superintendent of Public Education Debbie Critchfield said Friday during a visit to The Press office.
