New year, healthy habits

BONNERS FERRY — The students at Bonners Ferry High School came back from winter break and participated in an event that the Idaho Drug Free Youth (IDFY) and i2i program brought to the school. Each class participated as a whole in a three-hour session of what was not only team building exercises, but exercises that encouraged the classmates to communicate.

BONNERS FERRY — Anne Solt, 47, is facing multiple charges after she led law enforcement on a car chase that began in Bonners Ferry and ended in Moyie Springs on Friday night, Oct. 19.

I, too, would like to commend Mayor Kerby on his receipt of the Harold Hurst Award because of the great job he did in the beautification and upgrade of downtown Bonners Ferry. As a volunteer at the Visitor's Center, I am proud to say that yes, I live here and I love this place and the beauty welcomes me every morning. I do not mind the tourism, it helps local businesses during the summer months, and it contributes to our place on the Selkirk Loop, a road trip that exemplifies some of the very special and spectacular beauty that America has to offer.

On election day, Tuesday Nov., 3, three newcomers will challenge city councilmen David Gray and John Langs. Chris Clark will run unopposed for a two-year seat on the council.

Man rescued from Snow Lake area

BONNERS FERRY — Rescuers set out on July 27, after receiving a call around 1 p.m. that a subject with medical issues was in need of help near Snow Creek. The man was unable to hike out on his own and members of Boundary Search and Dive Rescue Team, Boundary Ambulance, U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement, and South Boundary Fire Protection District all responded.

Crosstime Saloon offers craft brews

BONNERS FERRY — “We’re the same business, essentially. I had beer and mead and cider, but I started to crowd her out of house and home,” said Kris Lonborg, co-owner of the new Crosstime Saloon. The bar is located downtown right next to Heart Rock Wines, another business he and his wife Lilly own.

Kootenai Wildlife Refuge tour road opens for spring

BONNERS FERRY — For outdoor enthusiasts in Boundary County, one awaited sign of spring arrived Monday, April 1. The gates opened to the auto tour road that threads its way through the Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge, and it was quickly filled with people in cars, on bikes, and on foot.

A recent chemical spill incident has upset some Paradise Valley firefighters, who voiced their concerns to the Paradise Valley Fire Commission Tuesday night.

The locally owned Pro X Home Center was one of seven businesses recognized in Do It Best Corp.’s annual report. The 2016 report, which was released at the end of October, drew attention to Pro X because of the overwhelming success of its newest location at 510374 Hwy. 95 in Bonners Ferry.
