Without any written record, there seems to be some confusion with the date of birth for Eneas Louis Abraham. According to his wife, “Chief Eneas” was born on November 5, 1881, however, the Indian Census Roll taken in 1937 listed his birth year as 1886. As he had no formal education and could not read or write, Eneas had the World War II registrar fill out his Draft Registration Card on which his birth date was listed as November 15, 1885. On that 1941 card, he placed his mark, an “X,” to verify the information was true.

13 Badger boy wrestlers will head off to state after qualifying at 3A Intermountain league districts on Feb. 15.

Boys basketball on 12-game winning streak

hat was a 11 point lead with six minutes left in the game became a 4 point win for the 3A Bonners Ferry boys basketball team (18-1) versus 4A Sandpoint (8-12) last Friday. Badgers won 64-60, fresh off a win against 2A Kellogg, 76-55.

City workshops LOT for general fund

The Bonners Ferry City Council plans to put a 1% local option tax on the ballot on taxable goods up to $1,000, before voters, but has yet to vote on the proposed tax. The LOT would be for a term of 10 years and would fund fire protection, roads, buildings, grounds, law enforcement and capital operation expenses for the three departments as well as property tax relief.
