Unfortunately, our state legislature has underfunded education for years.

Vote no on supplemental levy

Property owners are not responsible for funding schools, the state is. Levy money funds the job factory bloating school payroll with more liberal-minded teachers and unnecessary administrators. Early release schedules appease teachers' unions but reduce needed student class time, performance, and equal education.

This yearly legislation backs this sensible approach--of speaking courteously, dealing fairly, and keeping ourselves armed and ready--highlighted in President Roosevelt’s speech as it meets Congress’s responsibility spelled out in our Constitution “to provide for the common Defense and general Welfare of the United States.”

N. Idaho systems awarded DEQ grants

A trio of North Idaho systems are among the half-dozen selected for grants to fund studies to evaluate community drinking water and wastewater systems. The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality announced the award of $191,300 to six drinking water and wastewater systems on Wednesday. Among those selected for a grant were the Sagle Valley Water and Sewer District in Bonner County, the Curley Creek Water Association in Boundary County, and the Kingston Water District in Shoshone County.

Fred Stoos (Freddie) graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1914. In high school, he was very recognizable by his "pompadour" hair! Fresh out of school he started a small creamery business to help the local farmers.

It is a shame that one individual, a non-resident, chose to file a Title IX complaint when the district is faced with the closing of one school, double shifts and losing programs.

Where were our officials at town hall?

This past Saturday, Feb. 4, Bonners Ferry was host to a town hall meeting at which Idaho Sen. Scott Herndon, R-Sagle and Idaho Rep. Sage Dixon, R-Pondaray, spoke. Mr. Sauter was absent. There was decent public attendance, but noticeably missing were any Boundary County commissioners or city council members.

What is the truth about the proposed M&O levy and our property taxes? After seeing social media light up and hearing some dire predictions, I decided to dig for the truth.
