Bill Hunt: Missing in action; never forgotten

Bill Hunt was 31 when he was last seen alive. Leaning up against a tree, badly wounded, the Special Forces ranger provided cover for a wounded comrade that November in 1966. He never came home. Married with two kids, Hunt had served in the military before but got out after one enlistment to return home to Sandpoint.

No contested races means no November election

None of the city nor school board races were contested in Boundary County and so, no election took place.

Burn Ban on the Kootenai Reservation

Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, in coordination with the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho has issued an air quality advisory and a ban on open burning on the Kootenai Reservation until Monday, Nov. 5 at 5 p.m.

Mike Ferguson - BCSD Trustee, Zone 3

Mike Ferguson was recently appointed to the Boundary County School District board of trustees. As he was unopposed, no election was held per Idaho Code and he was appointed to the seat.

Football: Timberlake takes League, Badgers season ends

Cooper Lenz scored three touchdowns, including two on the ground, and the Timberlake Tigers overcame a slow start to steamroll the Bonners Ferry Badgers 66-28 to win the Intermountain League title on Friday, Oct. 20, at Kenny Mendenhall Stadium.

McGrane said nearly 70 percent of those who have moved to Idaho are affiliating as Republicans. In Kootenai County, 72% of new arrivals are registering as Republicans.

Sheriff investigates complaint against Reinbold's absences

The West Bonner County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a criminal complaint against West Bonner School District trustee Troy Reinbold for nonfeasance as a public official. The West Bonner school board has been unable to have a meeting because Reinbold has been absent, and therefore, school business has ground to a halt. The five-member board was reduced to three following the August recall of two board members. The board needs three for a quorum to meet.

Reinbold's absence again forces meetings' cancellation

A trio of West Bonner school board meetings were canceled Tuesday morning when Zone 3 trustee Troy Reinbold advised he would be unable to attend. Reinhold's absence, attributed to an unspecified family emergency, caused the cancellation of two special meetings set to interview candidates for two open board seats set for Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 18. The Zone 3 trustee's absence also caused the cancellation of the board's regularly scheduled meeting for October, set for Wednesday, Oct. 18.

As election nears, control of West Bonner board in question

Anxiety about which trustees will control the West Bonner school board continues to swirl through the surrounding towns and backroads of this remote Idaho Panhandle district. For seven months, division and mistrust on the five-person board and with the community have been commonplace. Parents and patrons vocally disagreed and challenged board decisions throughout the summer.
