Former Bonners Ferry mayor and councilman Darrell Kerby is scheduled to be sworn in today to complete the balance of the legislative session for District 1 Sen. Shawn Keough, who is bowing out because of a family health emergency.

BONNERS FERRY — The estimated median household income for Bonners Ferry is found to be $31,724, compared to $52,225 for the rest of Idaho, yet it could be argued that housing prices are similar to that of places with higher income opportunities.

PHD seeks volunteers for COVID-19 call center
Panhandle Health District is in need of volunteers to assist in the COVID-19 call center that the District has been operating since early March. The call center was established to answer questions from the public regarding COVID-19. Since its inception, call operators have fielded around 10,000 calls.

County commissioners consider tax, fee hikes
BONNER COUNTY —Commissioners responded favorably Monday to the suggestion of a 4-percent increase in county solid waste fees. If formally approved, residents would see the revised fees reflected on their December 2016 property tax bills, according to county sources. Commissioners Dan Dinning, LeAlan Pinkerton and Walt Kirby will vote on the increase at next week's meeting.

Boundary County Sheriff's Office launches Text-To-911 program
After joining a statewide grant process, Boundary County is pleased to announce another means to contact your Dispatch Center in an emergency. Sheriff David Kramer and 911 Administrator Crystal Denton joined this opportunity last fall and have since been getting our equipment and staff ready for this added responsibility to your Dispatchers. With this new service citizens and those that are traveling through Boundary County can now send a short message service (SMS) text message to 911 for emergency help when unable to make a 911 voice call. This new Public Safety Service is available to wireless customers of AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless cell phones.
