Last week, two special City Council meetings were held to discuss a local option tax and land use planning map. Both items were significant and urgent. Council scheduled these meetings, in advance, knowing some members found attendance at an Oregon golf event a higher priority.

What comes after Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday? The answer is Giving Tuesday, a worldwide generosity movement that inspires people to extend their generosity to support their local communities and favorite nonprofit organizations. The Boundary County community garden nonprofit, GROW!, Gardeners for Regional Organic Well-being, is asking for Boundary County’s support on this year’s Giving Tuesday, which is Nov. 29. Funds will be used to finance ongoing operating expenses, including the annual water bill, purchasing mulch for the orchard and soil for the raised beds, seasonal porta-potty rental, and grounds upkeep.

Forest Service road improvements to create temporary driving delays near Bonners Ferry

Road improvement work began Monday on the Bonners Ferry Ranger District of the Idaho Panhandle National Forests. The work will cause temporary driving delays on several Forest Service roads in the Boulder Creek/Twentymile Creek area. Drivers can expect short delays in most cases, but several planned culvert replacements could delay traffic up to 4 hours at a time.

“Agriculture in Boundary County,” panel 2 displays a General Soils Map that color codes soil associations throughout the County, and is used to compare and define differences of farmable lands in Boundary County. “The Nile of the North,” as the Kootenai River Valley has been called, and “God’s Country,” a reference to the Bench Lands is compared in terms of soil fertility, early farming and current farming practices.
