City residents to vote on LOT in May
At the Tuesday May 16, election Bonners Ferry residents will hit the polls to vote for a local option tax of 1% on taxable goods to fund the Bonners Ferry police department, fire department, street crews and snow removal.

Bonners Ferry Distinguished Young Women is excited to participate in National Be Your Best Self Week, taking place April 17-21. National Be Your Best Self Week is a national outreach effort led by program participants across the country to spread the Be Your Best Self message to as many young people as possible.
Bonners Ferry sweeps Timberlake for IML title
With the sweep, Bonners Ferry (6-6, 3-1 IEL) won the season series from Timberlake (7-6, 1-3) 3-1, and will be the No. 1 seed and have home-field advantage when the Badgers face the Tigers in early May in a best-of-3 series for the 3A District 1 title. With Kellogg and Priest River dropping to 2A this year, Bonners and Timberlake are the only two remaining baseball-playing members of the IML.

Critchfield touring state to discuss new education laws
Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction Debbie Critchfield and officials from the State Department of Education will tour the state beginning Tuesday to discuss changes to education laws and budgets approved during the recent 2023 legislative session.

Kris Crocker returns as the emcee for this year’s Bonners Ferry Distinguished Young Women Scholarship program on April 29, at 6:30 pm. Crocker has emceed for the program in the past and is again lending her talents this year.

Dinning receives Idaho Distinguished Service Medal
Former Boundary County Commissioner Dan Dinning has been awarded the Idaho Distinguished Service Medal by the Idaho National Guard. The award was given in recognition of Dinning’s service to the county, Idaho Military Division, and the Idaho Office of Emergency Management.

Biden budget is unaffordable
The White House recently released its Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 budget proposal a month late, and it would run our country deeper in debt. It would drive up federal spending to $6.9 trillion, while deficits would rise to more than $2 trillion by FY 2033. Interest on federal debt will skyrocket from $661 billion this year to more than $10 trillion over the next ten years. To make matters worse, the President’s budget calls for nearly $5 trillion in new and increased taxes to help fuel tax-and-spend proposals. We simply cannot afford this.

Moored on the north bank of the Kootenai River, the J.M. Schnatterly, a 45-foot cabin cruiser, owned by John Miles "J.M." Schnatterly, was damaged by fire on April 11, 1923.
