Henry J. Klebert was born in New York in 1889. By the age of 20, he married Anna, and they resided in New Jersey. Hank wanted to see what the “West” was like, so he left his wife with his parents and traveled to Idaho.

The amount raised for Abigail Blockhan was listed incorrectly in last week’s paper. The correct sentence is: “The community came together and raised over $12,000 for the family through the silent and live auctions and the spaghetti feed.”
United Way of North Idaho announces grant recipients
United Way of North Idaho announced recipients of the 2023 Community Care Fund competitive grant awards in a Thursday news release. Sixteen local nonprofits that positively impact lives in Idaho’s five northern counties were selected. Grantees demonstrate alignment with United Way’s education, health and financial stability goals; its focus on reaching the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) population; and aiding community collaboration. Counties referenced in the grantee list refer to the agency’s primary office location, though most serve clients throughout the Idaho Panhandle.

In December 2014, the Alliance for the Wild Rockies filed a petition with the United States Fish and Wildlife Services to list the Cabinet-Yaak grizzly bears as an endangered species and to designate the habitat in the Cabinet-Yaak ecosystem to the grizzly bears.

Last week, during my travels in Boundary County, I observed approximately 76 cow and calf elk and three bulls in one large herd in the Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge, where they had been grazing most of the week.
