A 50-year-old Bonners Ferry man was sentenced Tuesday to 180  at North Idaho Correctional Institution in Cottonwood, after pleading guilty to felony possession of methamphetamine.

Three funds in the Idaho Community Foundation – the North Idaho Action Fund, the Bonner County Endowment Fund for Human Rights and the Bonner County Fund for Arts Enhancement – have awarded $85,350 to local nonprofits.

Revegetation Status Update for the Kootenai River Habitat Restoration Program

The first year of construction for the Bonners Ferry Islands restoration project was completed in 2015 and included revegetation at two constructed islands, and on the north bank of the Kootenai River as part of a larger scale restoration program to help native fish, provide habitat and increase the food web. Revegetation included planting native trees and shrubs, planting live willow cuttings, seeding, and installing a large amount of dead brush to protect live plants from deer and other wildlife.

Sundance Mountain is the site of a horrific lightning caused wildfire that ignited in August 1967, and claimed two lives: Luther Rodarte of Santa Maria, Calif., and Lee Collins of Thompson Falls, Mont. Both men perished in the blaze of The Sundance on Sept. 1, 1967.

CASA plans popular Purse Party fundraiser

If you're looking for a new purse, North Idaho CASA has it in the bag. On Wednesday, Nov. 15, from 4–7 p.m., the Pend d’Oreille Winery Tasting Room will host North Idaho CASA’s annual Purse Party, an event that area residents have been supporting for close to two decades. Hundreds of handbags will be available for purchase, and some will be up for silent auction bid. Appetizers and wine will be available to guests who mingle and shop during the three-hour event, generously sponsored by Finan McDonald and Rhonda Tate again this year.

Our program is in need of volunteers from our great community. We run every Friday throughout the school year (with the exception of school holidays and snow days) during the hours of 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the Boundary County Middle School. The children adore community members popping in to say “hello.”
