Martin Luther King Day Celebration January 18
On Monday, January 18, the Boundary County Human Rights Task Force will again sponsor a celebration of Martin Luther King/Human Rights Day. This year the program celebrations will be held in the Middle School library at 6 p.m. This project is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Idaho Humanities Council which is a state based affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

MERIDIAN — In her capacity as honorary chairperson, Idaho’s First Lady Lori Otter will launch the “See, Tell, Now!” campaign for the Idaho Office of School Safety and Security Aug. 23. She will also announce Gov. Butch Otter’s proclamation that September will herafter be designated as School Safety and Security Awareness Month throughout the state.

BOUNDARY COUNTY—The U.S. Forest Service would like to remind visitors of Idaho Panhandle National Forests that forest gates in grizzly bear management units will be opening soon. Gates in the Selkirk range are scheduled to open on Nov. 16, while gates in the Purcell and Cabinet Mountains should open Dec. 1. “These dates are dependent on weather conditions and personnel availability,” according to a USFS press release.

Boundary Ambulance has slow year
BONNERS FERRY — Due to the low revenue this year, Boundary Ambulance has been forced to cut back. In what they hope is a temporary situation. Boundary Ambulance is dropping the part-time EMT position to an on-call position, meaning there will only be two full-time EMS personnel at the station at a time.

Sturgeon release scheduled for May 4
The Kootenai Tribe of Idaho invites the community to participate in releasing of hatchery-reared juvenile white sturgeon into the Kootenai River. Participants will have the opportunity to release sturgeon and learn more about the Kootenai Tribe’s fish programs.
