West Bonner trustees appointed a temporary superintendent Wednesday night following their acceptance of a resignation of an unnamed employee. It was presumed to be Branden Durst’s resignation, but trustees never said his name in the open meeting.

Spacepoint set to launch new observatory

Looking up at the night sky, stars are everywhere — seemingly unlimited in their scope. And, just like those stars, the opportunities in the space industry are as unlimited and full of potential, Spacepoint's Kyle Averill said. That, he said, is part of the reason he launched Spacepoint, a new observatory that is located at the University of Idaho's Sandpoint Organic Agriculture Center. Launched in March, Spacepoint — a deliberate play on the new non-profit's home base — aims to create both interest in, and a pipeline to, all aspects of the space industry.

Absentee request deadline Friday for Nov. 7 elections

The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot for the Nov. 7 election is Friday, Oct. 27. Registered voters can request an absentee ballot at www.VoteIdaho.gov through 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27. Completed ballots must be returned to county elections offices by mail, in person, or in an official ballot drop box by 8 p.m. on Election Day.

Sheriff investigates complaint against Reinbold's absences

The West Bonner County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a criminal complaint against West Bonner School District trustee Troy Reinbold for nonfeasance as a public official. The West Bonner school board has been unable to have a meeting because Reinbold has been absent, and therefore, school business has ground to a halt. The five-member board was reduced to three following the August recall of two board members. The board needs three for a quorum to meet.
