A financial emergency was formally declared by the Coeur d’Alene School District. Trustees voted 3-2 during a special meeting Friday to move ahead with the declaration. Chair Rebecca Smith, who attended via phone, Vice Chair Casey Morrisroe and Trustee Heather Tenbrink voted in favor. Trustee Allie Anderton, who also attended by phone, and Trustee Lesli Bjerke voted against the motion.

Idaho has the unfortunate distinction of being in the top five states for acres burned by wildfire in 2022, including the disastrous Moose Fire that impacted Salmon, Idaho, and other nearby communities. The Moose Fire burned for more than 100 days and consumed more than 130,000 acres. Wildfires are burning longer and hotter, harming natural resources, wildlife habitat, budgets and workforces. They also carry an immense human toll, including the loss of firefighters who risk all to keep communities safe, health issues from smoke-clogged skies and lost homes and livelihoods.

For 2023 the Boundary County Noxious Weed Department will continue to offer weed identification, site review, herbicide type/rate advice, rental sprayers, booklets, brochures, and other land management information. Spraying of Road Rights-of-Way: Many county roads will be sprayed with herbicides on weed infested rights-of way this season, mid-April through October.
