November meetings will help set stage for legislative session

Idaho legislators will set the stage for the upcoming 2024 legislative session during a series of seven meetings at the Idaho State Capitol in Boise over the next two weeks. Although the 2024 legislative session does not begin until Jan. 8, activity will pick up inside the Statehouse halls starting Thursday, with the first of seven consecutive days of meetings. During some of the meetings, legislators are expected to discuss deadlines for the legislative session and begin looking at budget requests and revenue reports.

BONNERS FERRY — Local Girls State citizens, Cassandra Curtiss and Jada Ann Miller have returned home, having spent a week immersed in learning the ins and outs of life of a state legislator, holding political conventions, and listening to speakers from various levels of local, county, and state government. During this Girls State Session, Curtiss was elected election board clerk and Miller was appointed to director of Idaho Army and Air National Guard.

Coeur d’Alene, Idaho (April 6, 2016) – The Idaho Panhandle National Forests has started their annual prescribed fire program.  Forest Supervisor Mary Farnsworth explains, “Prescribed burning allows firefighters to reduce hazardous fuels while conditions are favorable.  Conducting burning in a more controlled environment ultimately provides for the safety of firefighters and the public which is always my highest priority.”

In the United States, thousands of motor vehicle collisions occur every day. In fact, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), over 6 million vehicle crashes were reported to police in 2015. The Idaho Transportation Department reported over 25,300 motor vehicle crashes in 2016 within the State of Idaho. 110 of those crashes were here in Boundary County.

It is already halfway through this school year? This is the comment I have heard from numerous students as we enter the last couple weeks of first semester. It is always surprising when time passes so quickly. Those of us who have been here a while also know from here on out time will go even faster. BCMS has had a very successful year so far and students and staff alike getting into their stride as we hit the busy season of semester tests and basketball.

 MOSCOW, Idaho – The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced today that it has awarded nearly $10 million to an academic, industry, and government consortium – including researchers at the University of Idaho – to study the major challenges limiting the use of insect-killed trees in the Rockies as a sustainable resource for bioenergy. The award was made by USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture, or NIFA.

Mr. Cal David Bateman was hired as Business Manager of Boundary County School District #101 on February 1, 2017 and he has not come up for a breath yet! Cal was a member of the Bonners Ferry High School graduating class of 1991. After graduation he spent 19 years working in California, Utah and Texas before returning to “God’s County.” Cal has been heard to say, “Bonners Ferry is the best place to live, ever!” He is forever grateful to have moved back to Northern Idaho.
