Prescribed burning begins in region's ranger districts
BONNERS FERRY — The Priest Lake, Sandpoint, and Bonners Ferry ranger districts are planning several prescribed burns late September through November. The purpose of these projects is to reduce potential wildfire impacts, prepare areas for tree planting and improve wildlife forage.

A bill inspired by the confusion that followed West Bonner's successful recall of two of its five board members cleared the State Affairs Committee on Tuesday. The bill, which passed on a 10-3 vote, was heard by the House State Affairs Committee because of its potential impact on state elections. It now heads to the House floor.

Ewing Eugene Lyle, 70, died Friday, November 3, 2006 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. The son of Clifford Clarence and Margaret Mable (Williams) Lyle, he was born April 8, 1936 at Las Animas, Colorado.

IPNF begins burning
The Idaho Panhandle National Forest plans to initiate their annual prescribed fire program starting today and continue into the following weeks. Prescribed burning is used to reduce dead and down fuels, selectively thin understory trees in dense forested stands, stimulate fire resistant plant species, enhance forage and browse, reduce the risk of large stand-replacement fires, and restore fire under controlled conditions as a disturbance factor in these landscapes. Prescribed fire managers are planning to implement hazardous fuel reduction burns, weather and conditions permitting, at the following project sites:
