Being green in winter isn't easy
Compared to the Midwest, the forests of North Idaho are filled with more conifers than deciduous trees. Conifers keep our forests green through winter as do their evergreen counterparts hugging the ground.

3-Mile Fireworks stand robbed
Three-Mile Fireworks, the family-owned firework stand located at the 3-Mile intersection north of Bonners Ferry, was burglarized the night of Dec. 26. According to owners Mark and Kristen Mierke’s calculations, there was approximately $2,000 worth of fireworks stolen. The crime occurred sometime between when 6 p.m. on Dec. 26 and 7 a.m on Dec. 27.

Leftover Oatmeal Cookies
Over the Thanksgiving holiday I had family over for a few days. Oatmeal was one of the breakfast meals; however, I over-estimated how much I needed and had a pot of oatmeal left. So I thought: why waste it when I could make cookies instead? Here is what I came up with.

You’ve probably seen him out walking around town. Eli Pine, 27, walks every day from Three Mile area to Bonners Ferry. Before he walked because he has an eye condition and doesn’t feel comfortable driving. Now he walks to raise money for the Friends of the Restorium.

Only voters who are affiliated with a political party may vote in Idaho’s primary election. The purpose of primary elections in the state of Idaho is to allow members of a recognized political party to select that party’s nominees to go on the general election ballot. Primary elections often are referred to as “party primaries.”
