Standing in a circle, they could not throw to the person immediately next to them, they had to call out the person’s name that they were throwing it to, they couldn’t let the ball touch the ground, and the decisions must be made quickly as they could not hold onto the ball for longer than three seconds.

A former teacher who taught at Valley View Elementary in Bonners Ferry, Holly wanted to help her friends and neighbors.

Kerttu named Certified Employee of the Month

Brenda Kerttu is May’s Certified Employee of the Month! Brenda teaches 7th grade science and agricultural science at Boundary County Middle School and she brings a hands on and active approach to the classroom. She is an invaluable team member and helps support both her grade level team and also the science department as a whole. Brenda actively engages in school wide development and growth and assists in any area she can.

BONNERS FERRY — With Christmas approaching, Bonners Ferry has shown the holiday cheer with decorations and events around the area. The community came together in the season of giving, celebrating with holiday concerts, fundraisers, and other festivities.

Pair: Recall about politics, not kids

An upcoming recall is a partisan attempt to oust conservative politicians from office, according to pair of West Bonner County School District board trustees. The comments are part of written rebuttals submitted to the county clerk's office by WBCSD board chairman Keith Rutledge and vice chair Susan Brown as they prepare for an Aug. 29 recall election. Residents in western Bonner County launched the recall drive in mid-June, following increasingly contentious board meetings after the board mulled selling Priest River Middle School and Branden Durst, a former policy analyst with the Idaho Freedom Foundation, was announced as a superintendent finalist.

Change needed with school district

Tuesday March 12 will be an election for another $1.4 million property tax levy for two years, that totals $2.8 million. Currently the state public schools get about half of the total state budget, the local schools get their portion of that, as well as about half of the total property taxes.

Superintendent Scoop: End of 2017-18 school year

The statement, “This was an interesting year!” evokes many thoughts to different people. I started teaching in 1977; that equals 41 school years! 2017-2018 in BCSD gets the title of the Most Interesting!! This is not to say it was a bad year, very far from that! As synonyms for “interesting” explain: absorbing, engrossing, fascinating, riveting, gripping, compelling, compulsive, captivating, engaging, enthralling and my favorite — intriguing! I will stick with interesting. If you want to know any more, wait for the book… names will be changed to protect the innocent (and the interesting!).

Pastor travels to mission in Africa

BONNERS FERRY — Charlie Frederico, the Teaching Pastor at Grace Bible Fellowship, will be embarking on a mission, along with Phil Schlener, to Sierra Leone, Africa on Oct. 21. This will not be a vacation — they will not be visiting wildlife refuges or going out to enjoy the sights. Instead they will spend two and a half weeks teaching from morning until night.
