It's Boise and the people we send there

Just watched Steve Fioravanti YouTube video. One of his concerns as commissioner is the plexiglass? Wonder what his thoughts are on the wall-to-wall Bonners Ferry City Hall bomb blast “glass” are. Or the folks that still wear masks? Will he demand they remove them? Mock them?

Mechanized birds: Wildland firefighting with drone intelligence

The robotic birds of the sky, known colloquially as drones, were a menace to the wildland firefighting community. The mere appearance of a recreational drone in the skies near a wildfire called for the grounding of all firefighting aircraft, giving birth to catchy sayings like “If you fly, we can’t,” and “It’s not worth the view.” While these sayings are still true, drones – also called UAS or unmanned aerial systems – are playing an increasingly important role in fighting wildfires.

Bedke aims for Idaho’s No. 2 spot

A little more than 20 years ago, when Scott Bedke was appointed to fill a vacancy in the Idaho Legislature, he left his family’s ranch in Oakley with one thought at the forefront of his mind. “If I’m going to leave that to go to the Legislature, I’ve got to make a difference,” he said Monday in a sit-down interview with The Press. Bedke believes he’s done just that, having served at times on the budget, Revenue & Taxation, Resources & Conservation and transportation committees. He’s mediated “really ticklish” water issues in southern Idaho and worked to “drought-proof” the growing state.

Tax cut suggestion is mere sloganeering

The letters by Fay Almond and Ingrid Glenn (Bonners Ferry Herald, Oct. 6) would have readers believe the county commissioners are in love with raising taxes and that candidate Fioravanti has the magic recipe for cutting taxes.

Steve Johnson: Voters’ choice

During the primary campaign, candidate Scott Herndon demonstrated viciousness and untruthfulness in his attacks on the incumbent senator. A lengthy text from him that blocked my reply made it clear he didn’t want to hear from me; his mind was set. Such absolutism and extremism are evident in his agenda: he would reject funding for Medicaid, public education, Meals on Wheels, highway and road improvements, and veterans’ services, among others. He believes a woman has no right to choose under any scenario. He wants to sell our public lands into private hands.

Keep Bertling as county commissioner

The only criticism that has been brought against current commissioner, Tim Bertling, is that he voted to accept money from the federal government. Boundary County has utilized federal funds for many projects from river dikes to currently, a new ambulance. Examples are PILT (payment in lieu of taxes) for federal land in the county, Secure Rural Schools (roads and schools) federal highway funds for roads and bridges, federal funds for our airport and many others.
