Follow these tips for trail safety, First Aid
In Boundary County, we head out to forest and river trails to hike, pick berries, find mushrooms, track animals, hunt, ride mountain bikes, snowmobile and ride ATVs. Most excursions will never end in someone needing First Aid. However, as the mother of three Eagle Scouts, I would have to agree with the Boy Scout motto: “Be Prepared.”

Yellow skunk cabbage: Pretty, but smelly!
Last week, on a calm morning, I was hiking in the area of Robinson Lake. As I was walking down a path along a creek, I noticed an early spring plant which inhabited the woods by the stream banks. Surprisingly I smelled a lightly pungent smell, a somewhat skunk-like odor. As I bent over the yellow and green plant, I detected a slightly stronger odor.

Buddy, Boundary County Sherriff’s Office narcotics K-9 is better prepared should an injury happen to him while on duty through a partnership with Bonners Ferry Veterinary Clinic and a K-9 specific “Buddy Bag” donated to the Sheriff’s Office K-9 team, Cpl. Mike Valenzuela and his partner Buddy by the K-9 Defender Fund.

EAGLE — Bonners Ferry’s Jacob Callister won the 800 in the 3A Idaho State Track Championships held Friday and Saturday.

The Badgers split their team this weekend with some students going to Coeur d’Alene and some to Priest River.

Badgers sweep Maniacs to start season
The Bonners Ferry Badgers baseball team started its 2018 season 3-0 by sweeping the Orofino Maniacs last weekend. The Badgers scored 10 or more runs in each game, and also had a combined 5-hit shutout from seniors Mason Eby and Shayne Walker.
Season's first track invite at Bonners Ferry High School
Bonners Ferry High School hosted 12 teams for the track invite on Saturday. The sun was shining and weather cooperated for the first Invite of the season.

'Who-who' wants to see live raptors?
‘Who-who’ wants to see live raptors? Birds of Prey Northwest is coming to Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge on Dec. 4 and 5, with three programs. On Dec. 4, the programs are at 5:30 or 7 p.m.; and on Dec. 5, at 10 a.m. Doors will open 15 minutes before each program starts.
