Economics and market outlook for 2019 grain and brassica crops

BONNERS FERRY — At this point in time, wheat appears to be the only profitable annual crop for this region when considering market costs for all factors of production, including land. Given the surplus of garbanzos worldwide, plus tariffs and quotas imposed by India, the price is not expected to rise significantly from its current level, $0.18 per pound, approximately half of last year’s price. Peas and lentils are also impacted by tariffs imposed by China, which may or may not remain in effect.

Bran Griddle Cakes

Had my son and grandson over this weekend and decided it was time to make my special bran griddle cakes for breakfast. These are thick hardy griddlecakes. The batter is very thick so don’t think something is wrong when you make it. I also made a nice raspberry syrup to put over them. Easy to make by just putting the frozen ones into a pan and cooking them over a warm flame till it thickens.

So much to look forward to and plan for. With that said, currently our great teachers are challenging students daily and growing individuals academically, socially, and emotionally.
