Christmas tree permits available online
For the third season, the USDA Forest Service is selling Christmas tree permits online. The permits can be found through Recreation.gov, which makes it more convenient for visitors to find and purchase permits to cut holiday trees from their favorite national forest. Permits are currently available and may vary by national forest.
City to host public hearing on proposed rate increases

Badger football is 3-0 after beating the Libby Loggers at the Battle of the Kootenai 37-7 on Friday, Sept. 9.
Kootenai River Complex Fire Update Sept. 12
The Russell Mountain and Trout Fires burned together and will now be called the Russell Mountain Fire. Fire activity on the Russell Mountain and Katka Fires continues to be a low intensity, backing ground fire that has been slowly moving downhill. The estimated size of the Kootenai River Complex fires is 19,708 acres with 346 personal working on the fires.
Fire Update for Saturday Sept. 10
The Incident Management Team reported that on Friday Sept. 9 the Russell Mountain Fire slowly backed down the slopes west of the Westside Road, this generated quite a bit of smoke.

Lightning storm brings numerous wildfire starts to region
A Friday thunderstorm system hit the the region hard, leaving behind a lot of lightning and little precipitation — and more than a few wildfires in Bonner and Boundary counties and the rest of North Idaho.
