NIC Basic Detention Academy graduates first class of students

North Idaho College held a graduation ceremony for its first Basic Detention Academy class Friday, March 10 in the Edminster Student Union Building at NIC. Five recruits completed the nine-week program and all will continue working for local law enforcement agencies. Four graduates will work with Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office and one with Bonner County Sheriff’s Office.

Boundary SCD works on education, outreach in community, schools

Each year, the Boundary Soil and Water District partners with the Boundary County Farm Bureau to co-host several farm tours to help educate community members and local high school students about the wide diversity of agricultural businesses that operate in the area.

Battle of the Books Back at it

Valley View Elementary hosted its second Battle of the Books event Feb. 9 with elementary and junior high students competing in a trivia-style quiz bowl.

Special Olympics enjoys trip to Schweitzer

Bonners Ferry Special Olympics athletes recently enjoyed a trip to Schweitzer for a great day of tubing and have been out practicing snowshoeing.

They didn’t walk out of the Ford Idaho Center with the state title like they wanted, but the Bonners Ferry Badgers still accomplished something no other Badger boys basketball team had done — reaching the state championship game.

Month celebrates women's history, suffrage

Women's history is filled with stories of struggle and determination, and one of the most significant struggles women faced was the fight for voting rights. For centuries, women were denied the right to vote, and it was not until the early 20th century that significant progress was made in this area. In the United States, the suffrage movement began in earnest in the mid-19th century. Women's rights activists like Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton led the charge, organizing protests and rallies to draw attention to the issue of voting rights for women. Despite their efforts, however, progress was slow. It was not until the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution was ratified in 1920 that women finally gained the right to vote.

Enhancing health care options and delivery across Idaho, country

As Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee, I am committed to a health care agenda that provides Idahoans with the affordability, quality, choice and control that they want, need and deserve. Access and affordability remain pressing challenges for far too many working families, especially in the face of rampant inflation and other economic pressures. Idahoans deserve an accountable, fiscally responsible government that advances meaningful solutions for patients at the pharmacy counter, the doctor’s office and the hospital. The reckless tax-and-spend policies of the past two years fall drastically short of that standard. Congress can and must do better.

Moyie Springs working on zone changes

The city council of Moyie Springs is proposing zone changes for a number of properties in order to remove the unrestricted zone use and to provide more legal definitions of zoning.

Request for public challenges to improve map of broadband availability in the state

The Link Up Idaho initiative is asking the state’s residents to submit information about their internet to provide insight into broadband availability across the state. Idaho residents can submit information about their internet by March 15.
