If you’ve recently received junk mail attacking Jim Woodward, a native of Boundary and Bonner counties, brace yourself for more as Idaho’s primary election approaches. This malicious misinformation campaign, unprecedented in our state, is largely the work of a few discontented far-right extremists. It’s a departure from our usual electoral process.

I support Travis Stolley for Boundary County sheriff. In listening to the candidates and reviewing their websites, there are things that seem appealing on the surface, but others are deeply concerning.

After attending the debate, and reviewing websites and Facebook pages of the three candidates for Boundary County Sheriff, it surprised me that only one candidate has any incident command level training and experience.

I am a resident of Boundary County, have worked in law enforcement for the past 30 years and have held almost every position from the bottom to the top. A strong background in management and commander experience are just a few strengths necessary to achieve success as a sheriff. An outside candidate is important for a smaller agency as it encourages less corruption, better morale within the department and brings in outside experience.

Two bills approved by the Idaho Legislature are expected to enhance water management in the state, Idaho Water Resource Board officials said following its March 29 meeting. The first bill, House Bill 687, would allow the Idaho Department of Water Resources to petition a District Court judge to commence a water rights adjudication in North Idaho's Kootenai River Basin.
