IPNF offering Christmas tree permits online
In an effort to promote social distancing and reduce the need for walk-in business at administrative offices, people can easily print their own Christmas tree cutting permits at home from www.recreation.gov. The online permits are free, but there will be a $2.50 administrative fee for the online transaction.

On July 22, 2017, the Boundary County Historical Society held the 100th birthday of the 1917 Megquier-Houck Building. It was a big celebration at the museum, with a historical program and birthday cake. This year, 2020, is the 100th birthday of the 1920 Megquier-Houck Building.

Maggie Zee, a student at The University of Idaho College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, has found a way to utilize the waste left behind from Hops, used primarily as a bittering, flavoring and stability agent in beer, allowing the possibility of creating a future with sustainable paper and textiles.
City of Bonners Ferry to propose fee increases
The City of Bonners Ferry will announce in the coming weeks a proposal of a number of fees for business licenses and alcohol permits, animal licenses and impounds, miscellaneous fees, building permits, utility application and connection, city property, parade permits, electrical vehicle charging stations and city equipment.

The Boundary County Fair Board has proposed an increase in rental fees for the Boundary County Fairgrounds and its indoor facilities. If approved, the new rates would go into effect on January 1st, 2021.
12th annual Turkey Trot to take place Thanksgiving morning
The Bonners Ferry Turkey Trot 5k/10k race will once again take place Thanksgiving morning for the 12th year in a row. The race will start and finish at the Boundary County Fairgrounds.

Even before the presidential election, there was speculation as to whether Donald Trump could win the election, even if he did not receive at least 270 electoral votes. In a 2019 law review article, Edward Foley, an Ohio State University law professor, suggested that Trump might be able to win in a close and disputed election, either through the Electoral College or the House of Representatives. The Trump campaign has reportedly embraced the idea and is counting on it as a last gasp hope for victory.

Last week while observing along the Kootenai River I saw a long-necked, nearly all-black water bird with white chin, neck, chest and yellow bill with unusually bright red eyes in the river next to the southern bank. The bird according to my “Birds of Idaho” Field Guide was a Western Grebe.
