The argument was made in last week's paper that our rights come from the Constitution and we can do or say anything we want. Wrong. Our rights do not come from the Constitution. Our Declaration of Independence says it quite accurately.
Kootenai Valley Quilt Guild quilt show Sept. 9 and 10
Kootenai Valley Quilt Guild members are excited to host their annual Quilt Show at the Memorial Center, 111 E Lincoln Blvd, Libby, MT on Friday, Sept 9 (10 a.m.-6 p.m.) and Sat, Sept 10,(10 a.m.-4 p.m.). The Center is a different location from the previous years and offers a beautiful venue to display the many quilts made by Guild members and quilters from the surrounding area.
Writing contest
There is a writing contest going on and submissions should be turned in at Boundary County Library. Organizers ask community members to celebrate “reading and our library.” There are two topics to pick from, “What the library means to me” or “My favorite book in our library is, and why.”
If this was about book bans, wouldn’t the Boundary County Library need to have the books?
This cannot be stressed strongly enough … there are no sexually explicit materials in the children’s area of the library. There is no pornography in the library.

Update on Eneas Peak Fire
Tuesday, Aug 16th, 3 p.m.: A reconnaissance aircraft flew over the Eneas Peak fire to gather information about current fire size and behavior. The fire had grown to 8 acres of burned area and it is still being watched closely by firefighters. It is primarily burning upslope in a north-westerly direction towards the top of the ridge north of Fisher Creek.

Wesley A. Dirks, 77, of Inman, Kansas, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, surrounded by family at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was a retired farmer, poultry producer, and carpenter.
Diamond Watch Fire exceeds initial attack
Since it was started by lightning in mid-July, the Diamond Watch Fire has exceeded the initial attack, U.S. Forest Service officials said in a press release Friday. The fire, now estimated at 120 acres, is being fought by 24 personnel. Located 5.5 miles due west of Nordman, the fire was reported July 14 and is listed at 0% containment. Burning on a ridge to the east of Diamond Peak in Pend Oreille County, smoke from the fire can be seen from the Priest Lake area. The fire is burning in "timber litter" with jackpots of heavier fuels in a dense forest canopy.

Idahoans and their well-earned retirement savings
Idahoans work very hard. Some work well beyond a typical retirement age. Having the retirement savings necessary to enable Idahoans to choose whether to work, rather than needing to work, in senior years can better ensure a secure and enjoyable retirement. As Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, I worked with Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) to craft the Enhancing Americans Retirement Now (EARN) Act that would expand opportunities for Americans to increase their retirement savings and improve workers’ long-term financial well-being. The Committee approved the EARN Act unanimously (28-0), paving the way for its enactment.
